Catullus 5

In this poem, Catullus' message is simply: life is short, so live it to the fullest. Catullus (the character) believes that kissing Lesbia so many times is the only way to get the most out of the short time he has to live. Their kisses, which represent their love, means so much to Catullus that he says "forget what the others think; they're just jealous."

The tone of this poem is almost anxious. He writes as if there is not much longer to receive these kisses and is eager to get them RIGHT now. Perhaps he is keeping something from the reader - such as an unpredicted circumstance that could separate Catullus and Lesbia, thus ending their love, and their "life."

COOL STUFF:
This song reminds me of Catullus' tone in Poem 5: The Sword & The Pen by Regina Spektor
The lyrics are provided in the information box on youtube!
(I really love Regina Spektor. Yayyy.)
