Contemporary Epic

I'm going to have to bring my love of musicals, theatre, and latin back together again. So once again, Spring Awakening!

First of all, this German play turned musical should really be about 5 separate miny shows, because the content is so lengthy (like an epic!), but that doesn't work on broadway. The themes and overall content is also extremely serious, covering a wide spectrum of important topics that have affected society forever. Although they are not manly subjects like war, battles are being fought within issues such as sexuality and gender, young relationships, suicide, abortion, and family dynamics. There is a young hero: strong, insightful, and radical Melchior Gabor. A muse, perhaps: the overall spirit and etherealness of naive and organic Wendla. In the end, Melchior wins the battle by forcing everyone to think deeply about what is truly "right." And it is heart-wrenchingly sad, depressing, yet still amusing and entertaining.
