The Wall (Pyramus and Thisbe)
The brick wall in Ovid's Pyramus and Thisbe presents both a literal and figurative meaning. The literal meaning is obvious. The wall separates the young lovers physically. The huge brick wall stands between Pyramus and Thisbe's neighboring houses, which doesn't allow them to have contact besides whispering through a small crack. The wall also has many figurative meanings. For one, the wall can be seen as a symbol of their parents. Because of the feuding between their families, Pyramus and Thisbe are not allowed to be together. Again, the wall separates the young lovers.
